Our Story
Our aim is to help clinicians take better photographs of patients, develop standard operating procedures for image management, and implement quality assurance programs.
Aperture Medical is a UK/US collaboration which was formed to assist healthcare practitioners in achieving correct medical photography practices following the rise of digital camera technology.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The importance of capturing a condition can play a major role in a patient’s case. Medical photographs can be used for referral to a specialist, remote diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and for medicolegal purposes. Unfortunately, healthcare professionals do not always have access to a specialist medical photographer, instead relying on a departmental camera, personal camera, or a mobile device.
This can lead to 4 overriding key issues, categorized below:
Information Governance
How to accurately capture, store and transfer patient identifiable data according to local and national protocolsConsent, Legal & Ethical Considerations
How to accurately gain consent whilst addressing legal & ethical issues and subsequent usage of images.Quality Assurance
How to ensure sufficient quality of captured images and monitor quality both locally and remotelyPatient Safety
How to ensure and implement infection prevention procedures when undertaking medical photography
